Charge
The Academic Affairs Standing Committee responds to the needs/recommendations of students, faculty, and administration as it pertains to academic-related matters. The main tasks of the committee are to amend, improve, and update the Faculty Handbook and share in the development and revision of academic policies within the Provost’s Office and the Office of the Registrar. Secondary tasks include cross-cutting with other committees to assist in improving the academic environment at the University of Missouri.
The 2026-2027 Charges to the Academic Affairs Committee are determined during the first meeting of the Fall 2026 semester.
2025-2026 areas of focus:
Developing a General Attendance/Absence Policy
Conduct a holistic review of final exams: policy, schedule, and scheduling, and the role of Reading Day
Review and revision of Academic Calendar language
Review and potential revision of the Course Repeat Policy
Review and potential revision of the Academic Renewal/Academic Forgiveness Process
Review and potential revision of Grade Appeal Policy
Review and potential reorganization of final four sections of Faculty Handbook
The Provost’s Office has also requested that the committee consider new policies on Canvas usage; faculty absence guidelines; nepotism in the classroom (i.e. enrollment of relatives in instructor courses); and undergraduate TAs.
