Dean Evaluation Procedures

  1. Provost Office notifies policy committee chair of divisions whose deans are scheduled for a review.

  2. Provost Office provides sample evaluation instruments to policy committee chairs if needed.

  3. Provost meets with policy committee chairs to discuss the evaluation instrument and to provide input for their particular evaluation form. This also provides some consistency in questions being asked among divisions.

  4. Policy Committee chair obtains input from dean on evaluation instrument.

  5. Provost reviews final evaluation instrument before it is distributed.

  6. Evaluation instrument distributed by policy committee to faculty and staff in the college/school and then results are tabulated.

  7. Results of evaluation sent to Provost.

  8. Provost reviews results with the dean. Provost sends results confidentially to the dean before this meeting so the dean will have a chance to study the information. The dean gets a copy of everything, including narrative comments. After the review with the dean, the Provost's Office will notify the Policy Committee chair that the committee may share copies of the numerical data from the review with the faculty and staff of the school/college. The narrative comments are not shared in order to prevent identification of comments to specific individuals.

  9. Provost reviews numerical results with Faculty Council Executive Committee.

  10. Provost meets with divisional Policy Committee and/or members of the college if desired to discuss results and thank them for their work.
