Meeting Minutes: April 30, 2009 General Faculty Meeting
The Spring Semester General Faculty Meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. by Chancellor Deaton in 22 Tate Hall. Approximately 50 people were in attendance.
Opening Remarks & Introductions - Chancellor Deaton
Deaton welcomed the attendees of this meeting. He shared with the group the list of cost savings ideas. He called for the campus to continue their cautious budget planning. The Chancellor then turned the podium over to Vice Provost Ann Korschgen. She related the current status of student enrollment on Columbia campus, and solutions for retaining students due to the economy.
Report from Faculty Council - Thomas Phillips
Phillips began by introducing all the members of the executive committee. He then reviewed the current activities of Council's five standing committees: academic affairs, faculty affairs, fiscal affairs, diversity enhancement, and student affairs. He then related some recent changes approved by the faculty: the new faculty grievance policy, and changing reading day in the academic calendar. He reminded faculty to sign up for standing committee service and that Council will be looking at the committees this summer. He mentioned a couple of task forces: IRB Review; Course Evaluations; and General Education that are in the process of being organized.
