Douglas Wakefield

Douglas WakefieldProfessor
Director, Center for Health Care Quality
Since 2005 Dr. Douglas S. Wakefield is the Director of the University of Missouri-Columbia Center for Health Care Quality, and professor in the Department of Health Management and Informatics. Dr. Wakefield also holds adjunct professor appointments in the Departments of Family and Community Medicine and Medicine, as well as the Sinclair School of Nursing. He previously served as Professor and Head of the University of Iowa Department of Health Management and Policy from 1996 to 2005. His research interests are focused on patient care quality, safety, value improvement and use of information technology in patient care settings.  Dr. Wakefield's research has been funded from a variety of sources including, AHRQ, HRSA, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Northwest Area Foundation, John Deere Health Foundation, and the Veterans Administration. Recently funded research includes several grants from AHRQ evaluating health information technology implementation and outcomes in inpatient and ambulatory care settings.
